Teaching young English Language Learners can feel overwhelming as you try to balance everything you have heard about language learning. I will share my perspectives as an Early Childhood teacher who has an ongoing commitment to seek out and share research based best practices. This approach to empowering literacy, personal voice, and holistic health through storytelling and acting is inspired by Master Teacher Vivian Paley. Please check out this article for a taster about her work - http://www.naeyc.org/content/conversation-vivian-gussin-paley.
We will explore making the most of 3 to 8-year-old children’s potential to learn more vocabulary and grammar through oral language opportunities, specifically through storytelling and acting. This approach to storytelling organically co-mingles with children's play and allows for multiple points of entry to and from play based learning. Take aways will be provided including how to structure and schedule scribing and acting stories, progressive stories, and other language arts learning engagements.
